Accounting Analytics

Restriction: Must be in Business and Management (Master's) program; or permission of BMGT-Robert H Smith. The application of data analytics techniques in accounting. Topics such as identifying questions that can be answered by data; data extraction, cleaning and preparation; data visualization; audit data analytics; generating key performance indicators; financial statement analytics; and tax analytics will be covered. Students will gain hands-on experience with various data analytics software. By the end of this course, the students should have a basic understanding on how accounting analytics can help enhance the effectiveness of management control systems and improve the quality and relevance of financial reporting, as well as its implications in auditing and fraud detection.
