Special Topics; Geoscience Communications

This Geology Department seminar will explore the style and logic of writing abstracts, articles, and proposals, as well as the preparation of clear and concise presentations, in order to enhance the quality of Geoscience Communications and hasten the pace of successful publications and placement of graduate students. The seminar will include readings of well-written cutting edge articles in the Geosciences as well as in-class writing assignments and presentations, the development and maintenance of a course blog, and an end-semester submission and defense of an NSF style proposal. The Discussion section will involve weekly one-on-one meetings with the professor to provide direct feedback on current writing efforts, and to brainstorm future writing project for the course.
