Selected Topics in German Literature; Travel, Postcolonialism, and the Literature of German Speaking Countries

Journeys across continents, travels into different countries and their literary and cultural representations will be the topic of this seminar. It explores a wide variety of travel texts from the nineteenth to the twenty-first centuries emphasizing the heterogeneity of travel writing. Our discussions will focus on discourses of colonialism, gender, and race within the theoretical/methodological framework of postcolonial studies.
