Topics in Comparative Politics; Democratization

Seminar diving through the theories of how democratization occurs with a focus on the late twentieth century through today. Major themes will be what democracy is, how a country becomes democratic, and democratic backsliding. Seminal works will be covered, with a greater focus on recent academic research and current professional tracks for this subject. All students will do one case study on a country that has a democratization attempt in the twentieth century through today.
