Seminar in International Relations and World Politics; Conflict and the Environment

Restriction: Must be in Government & Politics program or Government & Politics: International Relations program. Credit only granted for GVPT309A, ENSP399A, or GVPT409C. This course will examine the complex nexus of security and environmental change. Specifically, the impact of environmental change on conflict - how it may increase conflict through resource scarcity, environmental refugee migration, Arctic territorial claims and state weakness, or decrease it through damage to military infrastructure and disaster diplomacy. It will also cover the impact of war on the environment, as in the cases of military base pollution and nuclear/chemical warfare.
