ISRL249K
Selected Topics in Israel Studies; Gender and Sexuality in Israeli Cinema
This course will explore the different ways gender and sexuality have been represented in Israeli Cinema over time. We will examine notions of manhood and womanhood within Israeli social context, as well as look at examples of outliers, exceptions, transgressors, and pariahs. We will investigate different types of representations of gender and sexuality, asking how they configure secular society, the Orthodox/ Haredi religious community, the LGBTQ community, the Arab/Palestinian communities, the Israeli soldier population, and more.
