Special Topics in Japanese Studies; Technologies of Japanese Performance
Crosslisted with THET428Q. Credit only granted for JAPN498P or THET428Q. This course explores technologies of performance in Japan across the centuries. We will focus on concepts of likeness and liveness as they manifest in mythical origins of performance, the traditions of noh drama, the popular, commercial theatres of kabuki and bunraku, and contemporary experiments with robotics, Vocaloids, and other new technology. Taught in English.
