Special Topics in Journalism; Information Warfare: Disinformation, Fake News and Journalism Safety

This course will examine the global phenomenon of spread of "fake news", types of disinformation (mis-information, propaganda, manipulation), historical origins, tactics used by governments, interest groups and businesses and the way how the new media ecosystem is changing perception of the world by media consumers and how it affects journalists. In this environment journalists are also exposed to additional threats - legal, digital and psychological. The course will explore the basics of psychology of trauma and digital safety for media professionals.
