Latin Readings; Medieval Latin
This course will introduce students to characteristic linguistic features, genres, and modes of discourse of Latin from the fifth to the fifteenth centuries. Topics will include new Medieval Latin verse forms and medieval transformations of Classical verse forms, as well as the role of commentary and exegesis in shaping medieval approaches to texts. The course will include an introduction to Latin paleography and students will practice reading some of the texts we study from medieval manuscripts. Readings are in Latin.
