This course offers a survey of major philosophical themes. We will read excerpts from classic literary texts that illustrate the key philosophical concepts. Some of the themes we will consider are: The existence of the past, present, and future; the limits of our knowledge;the reality of and our connection to freedom and choice; the role of death in our lives; the nature of happiness and the good life. Reading will include works by authors such as Tolstoy, Chekhov, Dostoevsky, Orwell, Huxley, Vonnegut, Grossman, and Asimov.
