Special Topics in Spanish Civilization; Culture, Clash and Society through Spain's Cinema

How has Spanish cinema, since its beginnings, portrayed Spanish society? What kind of cultural issues are at stake? How are class, etnia, gender, and/or national clashes depicted? Through a select number of Spanish films, from Surrealism to the most recent and successful box office hits, this course will attempt to expand the ongoing discussion on these pressing issues.
