Ethnography and Performance

Different types of cultural and artistic preformance around the world (theatre, music, dance, sport, festival) are examined. Students learn 1) how various types of live performance are studied ethnographically; 2) what thick description reveals and how it adds to the analysis of performance; and 3) methods for conducting an ethnographic study of performance.
