Professional Preparation in Law Enforcement

The Department of Criminology and Criminal Justice (CCJS) is collaborating with the Montgomery County Police Department (MCPD) and Montgomery County Sheriff's Office (MCSO) to offer 15 academic (elective) credits for eligible UMD students participation in entry level police officer training conducted at MCPD's Public Safety Training Academy (PSTA). Eligible students can attend MCPD's PSTA and earn UMD academic credit while progressing through the PSTA curriculum and gaining practical experience under conditions conducive to educational and professional development. CCJS367 is a co-requisite to CCJS369 and includes a series of mandatory seminars. Students are required to attend the scheduled seminars in addition to completing 600 hours at MCPD's PSTA and completing all academic work.
