Special Topics in Contemporary Chinese Fiction and Film; Chinese Film and Culture
Survey of representative works of Chinese cinema. The course explores a full breadth of the history of Chinese cinema from the early 20th century to date, by covering works by Mainland, Taiwanese, and Hong Kong directors, from Kungfu spectacle to revolutionary aesthetics, national to cosmopolitan discourses, and aesthetics of nostalgia to documentary. The course is taught in English.
