Seminar in Political Communication; Deception in Public Discourse
This course examines the central role of deception in democratic political discourse. Since antiquity, politicians have not only lied to their constituents about themselves, but also popularized a deceptive idea of democracy. The history of this process will be surveyed and recent examples from U. S. public discourse will be studied.
