African American Families

Recommended: FMSC330. Credit only granted for: FMSC420 or FMSC498F. Formerly: FMSC498F. Examination of the history, structure, cultural foundation, and diversity of African American family life is the focus of this class. Presentations and discussions enable students to identify, analyze, and assess: (1) the major theoretical perspectives used in the study of African American families; (2) the impact of social policy on African American families; and (3) specific areas of family life (e.g., marriage and divorce, parenting, child development, health disparities).
