This course explores the complex and multifaceted aspects of Chinese cities, discussing issues such as how each city recreated Chinese cultural tradition and spatial order, how it dealt with ethnic conflicts and demographic integration, and how urbanization empowered or victimized Chinese women during different historical periods.
