Special Topics in Advanced Theatre and Performance; Technologies of Japanese Performance

This course fulfills the literature/cultural studies elective requirement for the JAPN major and minor. This course explores technologies of performance in Japan across the cen turies. We will focus on concepts of likeness and liveness as they manif est in performance s mythical origins, the traditions of noh drama, the popular, commercial theatres of kabuki and bunraku, and contemporary exp eriments with robotics, Vocaloids, and other new technology.
