| Guiling Hu CHIN204 Expecting an A admin 03/31/2025 | Best Chinese professor ever. She's kind, patient and very clear. Her classes are well structured with plenty of assignments, which is helpful for such a tough language. She's been my advisor throughout the Chinese major and is genuinely one of my favorite teachers. She will go out of her way to help you in office hours and answer questions. |
| Guiling Hu CHIN201 Expecting an A Anonymous 12/12/2024 | UMD is incredibly lucky to have such a wonderful professor. Hu老师 always makes class interesting and she has such a great personality. The class is not necessarily difficult, but you must be discipline in practicing/reviewing material throughout the week. I found going to office hours to be very helpful. Hu老师 will be more than happy to assist you. |
| Guiling Hu CHIN101 Expecting a B+ admin 07/07/2023 | I'm taking this class during the summer, and it's definitely intense, but Hu Laoshi provides a lot of study material and practices to help you. She's very understanding of work schedules and when events come up, and she understands that this class is challenging. I would recommend her for CHIN101 definitely! |
| Guiling Hu CHIN101 Expecting an A- admin 05/01/2023 | Hu Laoshi is such a nice teacher. She understands that Chinese is not an easy language to learn and is very understanding. This class is hard but Hu Laoshi makes it manageable. Attendance is mandatory as she grades on it every class. There are a lot of assignments in this class so it is important to manage them accordingly. Go in for office hours if you ever have questions or need help, she is always willing to take the time to help you. |
| Guiling Hu CHIN102 Expecting an A admin 04/25/2023 | Hu laoshi is a great professor! She is very nice and funny. She is very understanding and nice with her corrections because she realizes that we are still new Chinese speakers who are going to make many mistakes. There are a lot of assignments for this class (10-15 assignments in one week), but the assignments are not difficult and should only take you 10 minutes a piece honestly. The course will take up a lot of your time with studying, but that should be expected with a language class, especially one that is 6 credits. I took the section that meets everyday for CHIN101, but this section is so much better and more manageable even with the additional work. Take a class with Hu laoshi, you won't regret it! |
| Guiling Hu CHIN101 Expecting an A Anonymous 11/19/2021 | Hu laoshi is one of my favorite teachers I've had among all of my education experiences. I was lucky to have a few years of high school level Mandarin before I came into her class, but she is an extremely good teacher and very understand. I had to miss class a number of times and she always let me come and make up my quizzes/work during office hours. She is unbelievably friendly and nice. If you have the opportunity to choose I would highly recommend her as your teacher. |
| Guiling Hu Expecting an A Anonymous 10/08/2020 This review was submitted while most classes were online during the COVID-19 pandemic. It may not be indicative of a regular semester. | Hu laoshi is so nice and funny! She is also very polite. The work she gives is for your own good, and they’re pretty easy. Actually, this whole class, there’s not too much work in general. Everything is just practice and to see what you have learned. Definitely recommend Hu laoshi for learning any CHIN courses |
