| Chase Kanipe HACS408E Expecting an A+ admin 12/12/2025 | Chase and Luke co-taught HACS408E and the class was a great experience. Probably one of my favorite courses I've taken at UMD so far. The class pacing was good, and classtime was always just a little bit of lecturing followed by two different labs. The labs taught me a lot, and the homework built off of them pretty well. The homeworks were due just every other week, making this class low-stress. Both instructors were very available outside of class for help as well. Luke even held in-person office hours. Chase and Luke emphasized that the class was focused on the learning, and they didn't want grades to be a stressor. You were likely to get most points on assignments if you simply tried. The final was an in-class CTF designed by Chase and Luke where the winning group didn't have to complete the final CTF write-up. It was quite enjoyable for a final. I loved this class, and I learned so much. It covers a lot from malware analysis to binary exploitation to android reversing to firmware reversing, and more. |
| Chase Kanipe HACS408E Expecting an A+ admin 12/15/2024 | I wrote down my experience for this class with Luke, but I will say Chase was a little bit more rigid and hard to talk to during the semester. He wouldn't be as helpful and seemed a bit condescending when answering certain questions. Chase is a very smart individual, but I didn't feel the same rapport that I did with Luke. |
| Chase Kanipe HACS408E Expecting an A admin 12/14/2024 | Very cool guy and a helpful teacher. He mainly just goes over the slides he creates, but is good at explaining reverse engineering concepts/tools and is proactive with answering questions. Also great availability on discord. I absolutely recommend! |
