William Lamp BSCI467 Expecting an A Anonymous 04/03/2020 This review was submitted while most classes were online during the COVID-19 pandemic. It may not be indicative of a regular semester.	This class is NOT as chill as the person below said. It actually requires a good amount effort (it was my hardest class when I took it). The material itself is interesting, and Lamp is a good lecturer. However, the course is tough in terms of being able to memorize and identify by sight a bunch of insecta orders. The labs are enjoyable when you are doing the Field Trips. But after the 4th lab (last field trip), you spend the rest of the labs identifying all the insecta you caught. It is a very tedious course and is NOT as easy as it is supposed to be. I did really well but had to work for it.

This is a fun 4 credit lab/lecture course. Lamp is the man. Take this class when it is offered in the Fall. The class has some strict rules like no phones or laptops but he has pretty basic powerpoints and the exams and assignments each week are super easy... The class reminds me of a high school science class. Lots of busy work that can be completed. The TA for lab, Ellie, is amazing. Love her too. She was also my BSCI106 TA so if you enjoyed her for that lab you will like this lab. The insects we deal with are also kind of cool to look at. I highly recommend this course. Some of our assignments include photographs of different wetlands and streams we visit during the semester, a lab practical where we identify different bugs based on order, and the midterm is highly recycled material. My class created a google doc to study from which was super helpful, and the exam average was an 84%. Almost everyone can get an A in this class if you try. Lamp is a very reasonable man and he just expects you to show up to class and pay attention/participate, which shouldn't be hard. We also have Science Fridays where we watch an interesting video or two sometimes relating to dinosaurs or current news about droughts and water towers and we watched a cool video that showed close-ups of how some insects swim around in streams and rivers. The class is the most interesting one of my biology career and I wish every biology major could take this course. I loved it! You will too!! Just... don't get on Lamp's bad side. Turn in homework when he asks it to be due, show up to class on time ready to learn, and don't let your phone or laptop go off in class. We also had a project where we presented different sustainability issues going on in the USA in groups of 5. That was also an easy A and he just wants you to be enthusiastic about your topic. Great class overall. 5 or more stars.
