| Cecilia Shelton ENGL488A Expecting an A admin 05/14/2025 | Dr. Shelton is very kind and skilled in her discipline. Our discussions were really engaging and the content she used in the course were relevent and interesting real-life examples. Her method of labor-based grading is a bit confusing and she made changes throughout the course, and she is not the fastest responder via email, but overall the class is chill and there is a lot of creative freedom. She is very good about accommodations as well. I would definitely recommend her for any course. |
| Cecilia Shelton ENGL611 admin 05/13/2025 | Kindest, nicest and very sincere, Cecilia is a rare gem of a professor. She makes the discipline of Language, Writing and Rhetoric appear extremely relevant, while emphasizing the necessity of diversity. My class had people from the customary literature and creative writing tracks and we all unanimously loved her and how much she made us appreciate pedagogy studies. |
| Cecilia Shelton ENGL487 Expecting an A admin 06/24/2024 | She's an alright professor. While she has good course material, she can be lacking in other areas. For example, she is a little bit bad with technology and sometimes it takes her a couple minutes to get things rolling, or she will go about doing tasks in a roundabout way (i.e. peer reviews through ELMS groups instead of doing it through the assignment). Furthermore, sometimes during class, her explanations or questions can be quite longwinded and not concise, so it's difficult to understand exactly what she's looking for or what she wants. Also, ELMS didn't reflect our grades at the end of class and weren't finalized until a week after they were due which was quite frustrating. :/ |
| Cecilia Shelton ENGL487 Expecting an A admin 05/05/2023 | Dr. Shelton is brilliant. Please, please, save yourself a headache with some other professor and take a class of hers! She is incredibly accommodating and supportive, which is hard to come by. The class is structured differently which takes a little getting used to, but that's only because she doesn't believe in traditional grading (which is a good thing!). She is also so personable and easy to talk to. Any English major or any non-English major would greatly benefit from her classes. |
| Cecilia Shelton ENGL612 Expecting an A Anonymous 06/30/2022 | Very caring professor. Genuinely cares about her students and about teaching. I was always interested in the topics we covered in class. Workload was manageable, but still intellectually challenging. One of the best graduate seminars I've taken at UMD! |
| Cecilia Shelton ENGL487 Expecting an A Anonymous 12/18/2021 | I can’t believe more people haven’t reviewed her. She’s seriously awesome. Not a hard professor but you’ll learn a lot from her. She’s also so, so approachable and gives great feedback. The world would be a much better place with more people like Dr. Shelton |
| Cecilia Shelton Expecting an A- admin 04/12/2021 This review was submitted while most classes were online during the COVID-19 pandemic. It may not be indicative of a regular semester. | Great professor. She is very caring about her students and is always willing to listen to students about changes that should be made in the class. I highly recommend. |
