| Matthias Zwicker CMSC740 Anonymous 05/22/2021 This review was submitted while most classes were online during the COVID-19 pandemic. It may not be indicative of a regular semester. | Great course for learning about how to simulate light transport and geometry processing. Personally I found the first half about light transport way more interesting and wish he spent much more time on it. The second half about geometry processing (shape deformation, differential geometry, shape reconstruction from 3D points) was not really my cup of tea and I found it difficult to pay attention during lecture, but thankfully we didn't have any assignments on this. The last two assignments are difficult and involve a little bit of math (look up "rendering equation" and "bidirectional reflectance distribution function"). The final project is open ended and basically involves implementing a paper of your choosing that's relevant to the class. As long as he approves your topic idea and you do a half decent job implementing/writing about it, you'll do well. He grades generously, curving the final, and made it so a 91% in the course is an A (for our class). |
