Selected Topics in Biology; Molecular Mechanisms of Disease

Prerequisite: C- or better in BSCI330. (Sponsoring Dept.: BIOL). Acceptable towards Biological Sciences Specialization Areas: GENB and PHNB. An overview of molecular diagnostic in today's medicine and the connections between basic sciences and clinical and translational research. Explore how state-of-the-art molecular and cellular biology approaches are being leveraged for personalized medicine, by understanding the biological basis of common human diseases and developing new treatments for these diseases. Topics will include disease mechanisms, discoveries in cellular and molecular biology applicable for clinical translational research, introduction to molecular medicine and ethics principles in biomedical research.
