Seminar; Travel Narratives from Cartier to Tocqueville

In this seminar we will study the transformations undergone by the travel narrative genre from the sixteenth century onto the early nineteenth century. Readings will include works by Cartier, Lery, Montaigne, Descartes, Fenelon, Graffigny and Tocqueville. Taught in French.
