Selected Topics in Germanic Studies; Watching Disaster: Eco-Crises on German Televison

In this course, we will watch a number of television programs from Germany and Scandinavia (Dark, The Rain) to explore the relationship between technology, ecological disaster, and human beings. We will explore the different ways that climate crisis is conceived, portrayed, and presented, as well as the ways that narrative, especially that of serialized television, can both critique and imagine alternate possibi- lities for human interaction with nature. Taught in English.
