GERM399I
Selected Topics in Germanic Studies; America in the German Imagination
From the moment of America's birth in 1776 to the present day, the country has exercised an outsize influence on the German imagination-as the land of freedom, of untamed nature, of mass culture and unfettered capitalism. In this course we will survey a variety of media from the eighteenth century to the present examining German culture's ongoing fascination with America. Taught in English.
