Special Topics in History; Harry Potter and the History of Magic

Using a British Library exhibition on the history behind the Harry Potter series as inspiration, this course is an academic study of "magic" in the premodern world. We will examine texts, artifacts, and illustrations to explore the history of the philosophers stone, fantastical creatures, magic words, potions, and more.
