Special Topics in Information Studies; Government by Algorithm: AI Use for the Public Good

Covers the AI legal and regulatory landscape at both the federal and state levels of government, as well as a range of policy concerns, including AI bias and data privacy. A portion of the course will look at dystopian outcomes from governmental use of AI technologies. Students will be expected to participate in designing one or more AI applications for a specific component of government to use in carrying out its mission.
