| Richmond Mathews BUFN712 Expecting a B+ Anonymous 05/07/2024 | The other review is accurate, the class is fair and the professor is approachable and explains things well. Sometimes he can lecture too quickly, but if you stop to ask questions, he will be patient and re-explain. He responds quickly to emails and is very knowledgeable in the subject. The class content itself is extremely important for anyone working in finance, I'm surprised it's not a core class. |
| Richmond Mathews BMGT340F Expecting an A+ admin 05/12/2023 | Rich is amazing. Great guy to talk to and he knows his stuff. I would recommend this class over BMGT340. The people who say it is harder just didn't pay attention or try to listen to what he actually had to say. |
| Richmond Mathews BMGT610 Expecting an A admin 04/25/2023 | Really does his best to engage his students. He's a super nice dude and the structure of the class is good. No complaints |
| Richmond Mathews BUFN712 Expecting an A+ admin 03/19/2023 | The course consists of: 4 case assignments, participation, midterm, and final exam. The participation is based on in-class exercises that the prof does along with the students at the same time, submitted at end of class. Very easy. The case assignment are based on your valuation skills and knowledge (do not recommend this course for anyone who hasn't take Valuation in Corporate Finance). Two of the cases were done in a negotiation settings with other teams, which was very fun. The midterm/final were relatively easy if you study. The course load was good, not crazy heavy. The slides/material were short (it's better to write notes on them during the lecture). The prof explained the concepts really well. He is very friendly, approachable, and considerate of student needs. The environment in class was very relaxed and enjoyable. He will do extra review zoom sessions outside of school hours to help students. Quick to respond to emails and very patient no matter how many questions you ask. He can tend to talk fast and rush through the slides, but if you stop and ask questions, he will slow down, repeat, re-explain. It is easy to not pay attention, so don't. Overall, great professor and course. |
| Richmond Mathews BMGT340F Expecting an A+ admin 12/26/2022 | Rich is the goat. 10/10. He knows what he's talking about. The case studies sucked but his exams were pretty easy. |
| Richmond Mathews BMGT340F Expecting a B admin 12/20/2022 | He is a very nice guy but this is easily the worst class I've taken in the business school. He teaches extremely advanced/complex topics before teaching us the basics (not what you expect in the intro Finance class), leaving students with little material learned. He also assigns homework that has very little to do with the class material and the case studies will end up taking your whole weekend when assigned (which providing zero value towards the concepts required for the class). From what I've heard, the other 340 teachers are far better where you will actually learn and be set up well for future upper-level finance courses. On top of that, the grading in those is far fairer and you will be less stressed. |
| Richmond Mathews BMGT340F admin 12/17/2022 | Take the other 340 professors for your own sanity. The course work with him is far more complex than it should be for the intro finance class and you don't end up learning what you need to for the future courses. He simply gets in front of the class with his slides, starts talking and plugging stuff into formulas, and you unfortunately never end up learning anything. The grades are probably a solid 10-15% (if not more) lower than they would be compared to the other professors. Not to mention, you actually learn with the other professors. |
| Richmond Mathews BMGT610 Expecting an A- admin 12/10/2022 | Super nice guy, but his class actually blows. Goes extremely fast and it's so hard to focus the entire time. Exams aren't awful but the case studies that he assigns are the worst thing ever. Don't recommend his class but as a person he's nice and understanding. |
