05/07/2025		Legitimately one of the best professors I've had so far at Merrill. He is extremely kind, understanding and is great at teaching the material. Each week you have about 3-4 short assignments (1-2 hours combined total) and he literally forces you to submit questions so that he can help you with any struggles you may be having. The midterm (only exam) was open note and the final project is super open-ended and you work on it in small steps with his help. Overall, would definitely recommend Derek for any class he's teaching, but especially 405.
