Open Seminar; Central American Diasporas Across the Transisthmus

This course examines Central American literary and cultural production as a transnational or transisthmian field of knowledge production, research, and engaged social practices. We will read representative text from Belize, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Panama, and their respective diasporic communities across a spectrum of genres and historical periods to gain a wide view of the region and its cultural imaginaries. Among the topics explored will be violence, displacement, diaspora, space, and cultural resilience.
